Skuja Braden represented Latvia at the 59th Venice Biennale, and in 2023 participated in the 7th Guangzhou Triennial at Guangdong Museum of Art, China. Their elaborate sculptures populate an exuberant universe that amalgamates queer and feminist perspectives, autobiographical and cross-cultural references, transhistorical and political concerns. Employing a material long marginalized and attributed to the realm of handicraft, the domestic dimension of the porcelain is constantly trickled by the witty, provocative richness of Skuja Braden’s imaginative repertoire. The works are unified through the constant exploration, comparison and juxta positioning of the separate cultures around the world through the lens of the erotic, exemplifying how the artists utilize the body to explore concepts and ideologies.
Skuja Braden are currently included in the exhibition Name of Desire at the Latvian Museum, Riga. They were recently featured in the solo shows, Pardon my Body and Strange Bargain, at kaufmann repetto Milano and New York, and Pop Porn at Karas Gallery, Croatian Association of Fine Artists, Zagreb. They are currently participants in the group exhibition Souvenirs of the Future at Pera Museum, Istanbul. Skuja Braden’s works are included in over twenty institutional collections worldwide, including Kistefos Museum, Jevnaker; Latvian National Museum of Art, Riga and Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Riga.
